My Billionaire Ex Wants Me Back
There are so many billionaire’s in Vertical Dramas, I’m pretty sure they outnumber the lower class, LOL. This story had it all, highs, lows and a dramatic death for the ages. While not spicy enough for my standards, it did have all the hallmarks of a Vertical Drama with the drugs, hitting and kidnapping as per usual.
The high: Skyla Lynne shines as Kara, a scheming and conniving ex-girlfriend that just won’t go away. I love her as a villain, but I wish I saw her as a leading lady at least once. I think she could totally pull off a “Bad Girl Seeks Redemption” storyline, don’t you?
All spoilers and no filters ahead.
The series opens with a couple both drugged on a bed, which totally follows my rule of “If they’re both drugged, then they do it” and they make love. Dylan (JT Garcia) thinks he’s with his girlfriend Kara, but instead is with his secretary Alison (Maya Jenson). Turns out, the lovely Kara handed the couple the drugs herself to force them together so she could go off to Europe without her man by her side.
In the two years she’s gone, Alison and Dylan have been in some sort of relationship, although it’s not really shown on screen. Are they lovers, friends with benefits, in a real relationship? Made even more confusing is that on Alison’s birthday, Dylan shows up with a ring in hand. He doesn’t give it to her however, when he gets the news that Kara is back. I don’t know why he immediately runs back to Kara, maybe out of guilt for how the relationship ended in the first place? Excellent reason to toss aside the woman you were flinging with but liked enough (tolerated enough?) to get a ring for, but I guess that’s why I’m not a billionaire (secret or otherwise).
But as fate, or the Vertical Drama Gods, would have it nothing is that easy and poor Alison turns up pregnant. Out of a sense of duty (and because the idiot loves her but is too dumb to realize it) Dylan proposes they get married, but it’s a SECRET marriage, obvi. Despite the secret marriage, Dylan has trouble letting go of Alison, getting jealous when a coworker flirts with her and removing Kara’s hands on him in front of Alison. Dylan drags Alison off and kisses her, which Kara immediately takes advantage of by taking a video.
Kara sneaks the video into Alison’s presentation for the company and accuses her of “drugging Dylan again” and sleeping her way to the top. Dylan thinks Alison did it to out their secret marriage, and Alison is DONE. If Dylan can’t be on Alison’s side, she doesn’t need his name or him to father her child. Dylan investigates and discovers that Kara is the one that filmed the video and demands she leaves Alison alone. Of course, as a true villain, Kara won’t listen. Kara recruits a friend that works with a client and she straight out abuses her, slapping her and stomping on her. Then white knight to the rescue, Zach (Adam Santa Cruz) a college friend of Alison’s saves her.
Dylan pulls the whole “it’s my ball and I don’t want to play with it, but you can’t play with it either!” but the grown up man version which is just jealous, but completely unable to express it in an appropriate way. Zach throws down the gauntlet immediately that he has feelings for her. Alison admits she’s married, and Dylan shows up breaking up their dinner date and drags Alison off with him. Alison is sick and needs the doctor but as can be predicted that is the EXACT minute that Kara “needs help” from Dylan. Alison makes her way to the hospital on her own and is getting the news from the doctor when he insists on talking to the dad as well, but when she calls him, Kara answers the phone and pretends Dylan is making love to her.
Dylan is jealous of Zach and insists that all the things he can give her Dylan can give her too and asks that they not get divorced. Alison remembers the phone call and can’t give in to him. Kara demands that Alison meets with her and tries to buy Alison off with $20,000 which Alison refuses. When Alison won’t give in, Kara pushes Alison in front of a car. Alison wakes in the hospital, luckily the baby is ok but when Alison tries to reach Dylan he tells her he’s busy. Alison walks the hospital halls and runs into Dylan and Kara. Dylan is surprised to see Alison there and can’t believe Kara didn’t tell him about it. Alison accuses Kara of trying to kill her so immediately Kara fakes a medical emergency to get Dylan to take her back to her room. Once there a police officer comes in and arrests Kara for pushing Alison into traffic, with dashcam video evidence. Dylan returns to the hall to hear the news that a pregnant woman in an accident is bleeding out and freaks out thinking it is Alison.
Alison is done with him and tells him she chose him and he chose Kara and she’s over that shit. She leaves the hospital with Zach. Dylan bails Kara out but tells her they’re over and he’s in love with Alison. A flashback reveals that 10 years ago Alison saved Dylan, but Kara took the credit for it to forge a relationship with Dylan. Dylan finds Alison and confesses his feelings for Alison and proposes, but Alison has a hard time believing him. He insists on bringing her to his mother’s birthday as his wife. Alison says it’s his last chance.
At the party, Kara riles up Dylan’s mom and she accuses Alison of interfering in Kara and Dylan’s relationship. Dylan finally admits to his mom and Kara that Alison is his wife. Kara insists on talking to Dylan and kisses him and Dylan doesn’t immediately turn her away. Alison sees and flips. Kara sends Alison a drugged drink, but she gets ill and leaves the drink and Zach tries to take her to the restroom. Dylan sees them leaving together and jumps to conclusions and Alison and Dylan argue. Dylan insists he loves her and Alison tells him his actions are shit.
Meanwhile, Kara is getting the attention of a man who drank from Alison’s spiked drink. Dylan’s mom argues that Alison is the only one that could have brought drugs to the party and after Dylan reveals Alison’s pregnancy, Kara is shocked and accidently drops the pills. Dylan finally learns the truth about Kara and learns Alison is the one that saved him 10 years ago.
Alison considers an abortion to help her sever ties to Dylan. Dylan’s mother brings her divorce papers to sign and tries to force her but Dylan intervenes in time. Kara plots to kidnap and assassinate Alison and Dylan tries to hide Alison in his house but doesn’t explain to her why and she freaks out trying to get away. Then, in a genius move, he gets drunk and Kara tries to move in on him AGAIN (awesome choice when your wife and unborn child are in danger). Alison is a real one so she sneaks out of his house pulling the old tying bedsheets together move and is immediately kidnapped.
Kara beats Alison with a belt then leaves her in the clutches of a goon. Dylan arrives in time to save her and takes her to the hospital. Mom demands he sign away his inheritance if he won’t leave for a finance meeting, but actually tricked him into signing divorce papers (sounds like he is a terrible CEO). Mom again tries to get Alison to sign the divorce papers and after the confrontation Alison loses the baby and wakes with temporary amnesia. Alison doesn’t want anything to do with Dylan. Zach arrives and Alison sneaks out of the hospital room where she is still being hunted. Dylan gets in the way of the attacker and takes a knife to the gut. The trauma of the accident jolts Alison’s memory. In the hospital again, Alison remembers Kara attacking her and Kara takes Alison hostage. In the scuffle, Kara stabs herself in the heart. The series ends with Dylan and Alison preparing for their new baby. Awww. sweet.
Spicy highlights:
Episode 1: Dylan and Alison make love against the wall and on the bed.
Episode 7: Dylan drags Alison into the car and tries to kiss her into submission (fail).
Episode 11-12: Dylan throws Alison on a bed and tries again to use his body to get his way (another fail).
Episode 25: Dylan traps Alison against the wall and presses his body to hers (and another fail! Maybe he’s a shit lover which is why it never works…).
