One Night Stand
Yeah, so no. This isn’t really worth the watch…or the coins. I don’t like stories where the main character isn’t living the HEA. And I like simple revenge, like the woman you mistreated is actually a billionaire and she’s taking you down. This is complex revenge. My mother died broken in both wallet and heart, so I’ll take revenge for her. No thanks.
The high: Ummm…that it’s over? I mean, it’s a good example of a starter VD, and there’s nowhere to go but up! It just looks like it was everyone’s very first Vertical Drama ever. Like a college project that lacks the depth of experience. And I know I’m not completely wrong, but I have seen some of these actors in newer dramas and they just look like they know what they’re doing now. In their defense, the script and directing also adds to the overall “newbie” look/feel to the whole thing.
All spoilers and no filters ahead.
First, we open with Emily, frantically getting ready for a job interview with a lot of talking to herself to set up the story. Next we cut to Richard talking about how rich he is (see, the script issues) and prancing around his house. I think directors are better using cuts to the trappings of wealth to help us connect that he’s Richie Rich instead of an actor doing to heavy lifting by saying, I’m super rich, every man wishes he was me! I slept with no problems on my $10,000 sheets…okay, so that’s not word for word, but honestly, pretty close :)
Apparently, they have an off screen meet-cute (see? off screen? why?) and shock-McShockerson Emily was hired to be Richard’s new assistant. Again, showing that might make me believe they could be a thing, but whatevs. They work well together and other than a few leering glances between the two, they keep it professional. One day they travel for business meetings where they get drunk together, flirt and fuck. Again, such a great opportunity for more show than tell. I was hoping a bit of spice would balance out the beginner-ness of the whole thing, but sadly no spice…If it was a spice, it would be flour.
The next morning Emily wakes up and freaks out, which leads to an awkward conversation. Despite the “oops, we saw each other naked moment” they decide to keep working together. Feeling the pressure from her mom and a chance to move past Richard, she goes out on a blind date with James. Emily is on top of her game at work until SUPRISE! She turns up pregnant. Emily talks to her friend Sarah, who is always in a dark closet when she’s on screen. Saving money on a set there, huh?
Emily tells Richard about the baby, but he doesn’t want it. They get into a huge fight and Richard ends up firing her. Emily goes on to have baby Lily alone. She struggles her whole life and dies with Lily plotting revenge on her father for abandoning her mother. Episode 35-50 is Lily working to get into her father’s company (she even gets her mother’s old position as an assist to Richard) and then her finding evidence of her father’s crimes to take control of the company and getting him arrested. She meets a guy named Alex who also wants revenge on behalf of his father. It ends with Richard’s arrest and Alex and Lily riding off into the sunset…
It had great potential if Richard spent the time trying to get Emily back and making a family with her. More sneaky, sexy times in the office. I hate “my mom died sad and my life is consumed with getting revenge” stories. Not my bag.
Spicy Highlights:
Episode 2: Richard is shirtless with that V showing, muy caliente!
Episode 12: Richard carries Emily to bed
Episode 13: Emily kisses Richard while draped on top of him.
