Vertical Drama Pet Peeves that are not about the Storylines

Okay, I can’t lie. For as much as I LOVE (and I do mean LOVE) a Vertical Drama there are also things about them that I don’t like and it’s not the acting or the storylines. I will NEVER criticize the acting. I’m not an actor, and I’m not paid to act and no one would ever ask me to. Are there some verticals where acting could improve? Sure. I’ll never be the one to call it out though. Doing something like acting in front of everyone is so vulnerable. It’s the same reason I tear up when I go to kids concerts because having the guts to perform in front of others is so impressive and kids are amazing. I could also be tearing up because having children forever changes your body and brain in ways you’ll probably never recover from, but that’s neither here nor there. I'm sure it’s the first thing.

My Vertical Drama Pet Peeves in no particular order. Number one, when the subtitles don’t match the words actually being said. I mean, what the hell? I’m not even talking about the censorship that happens where they say “bitch” on screen but the subtitles say “bench” instead, but when the words don’t match. I know that part of the appeal of Vertical Dramas is the rush to produce and put out a …what are we calling them? Shows? Series? Movies? Umm, I’ll go with series. So I know there is a rush to film, edit and drop a series as soon as possible, like time is the obvious driving factor and I totally get that, but I really do hate the subtitle errors.

Number two, the ads between the ads. You’re killing me! I think ShortMax is the worst offender in this. You’ll watch the episode and need to watch an ad to unlock another episode and before you can click the watch ad, an automatic ad for the app starts playing. I mean, does it stop me from watching? Umm, no. For sure not.

Number three, calling a Miss Mrs. and vice versa. If the actors are not native English speakers or it’s a dubbed script, I get why that could happen, but I’ve seen a lot of stories with first language English speakers and they’re calling unmarried Mrs. and married ladies Miss and it’s annoying. Like, please fix that…Just lean over and say “It’s Miss Taylor, let’s just fix that in the script right there.” I mean, again, time is of the essence. Also, from what I’ve heard in the interviews by Jen of VerticalDramaLove and the posts of various actors, it’s sounds like there isn’t even a ton of prep time even before filming starts, so I can see how something so minor can be so unimportant in the scheme of things. But c’mon, I’m your number one fan…okay, maybe number two behind Jen…

As a person committed to consuming as many Vertical Dramas as possible without making a single purchase, it’s obviously in the Vertical Dramas best interest to cater to me…right?
